Thanks to everyone who came to Week 3 with us! More information about our next meeting will be released soon.
Today, let’s solve a challenging arithmetic problem that may seem daunting at first, but can be simplified using basic concepts you’ve learned in school. Most of these require quite a bit of creativity to find, so don’t feel discouraged if you couldn’t solve it on the first try! The challenging problems we give you during our sessions are meant to extend your problem-solving skills and give you new ideas to think about.
Try this one (taken from Week 1’s problem set) out on your own first. Don’t click next until you’ve seriously thought it for at least fifteen minutes!
Problem: Compute \( 117 \cdot 1001 + 9 \cdot 999 \cdot 13 \).
When you’re ready, click on and we’ll guide you through…
